Queen Rania Al Abdullah Of Jordan is the first royal twitterist and confirmed her reputation as a forward-thinking tech-savvy gal.

Queen Rania has her own website where her speeches and photos are online and even her own Youtube channel which she uses to help diffuse some of the media stereotypes of Muslims and Muslim societies.

Queen Rania’s  first tweets were about watching chickflicks with her busband, musing on social media’s ability to change the wor and  flying in by helicopter to pick up the Pope.

Oprah Winfrey pushed Ashton Kutcher to be the first person on Twitter with a million followers and it’s a fair bet that she’ll probably amass more than anyone else if she continues to Tweet herself.

For some years now it has only taken the famous Oprah endorsement for a book to become a best seller, a movie to have commerical success of even for someone to become president. We’ve written to Oprah asking her to endorse Twitterists.com so fingers crossed.

Lily Allen is a singer with a sense of humour; an original free spirit who had the imagination to ask if God ‘ever feels suicidal?’

Her other songs focus on all the rest of the shit she sees going wrong with the world and she attacks with savage wit and accomplished rhymes. Here’s her take on drugs in the music business:

‘I’m not trying to say that I’m smelling of roses but when will we tire of putting shit up our noses… It’s meant to be fun and this just doesn’t feel right… So you’ve got a prescription, and that makes it legal. I find those excuses overwhelmingly feeble… The kids are in danger, they’re all getting hurt. From what I can see, everyone’s at it.’.

Lily Allen uses Twitter, Myspace and the media in general to promote her own career and likes to cause a stir by going topless in front of cameras or criticising other singers – but she has the grace to admit:

‘I felt like ‘Oh God, I’m short, fat, ugly and I hate all these people who flaunt their beauty’.

Wil Wheaton’s acting career looked promised when he starred in the iconic coming of age movie, Stand By Me, but then came Star Trek the Next Generation and he became the most hated actor in sci-fi for the smarmy and squeaky-clean character, Wesley Crusher, that he interpreted. The hatred went to such extremes that usergroups were set up entitled alt.ensign.wesley.die.die.die.

Poor guy.

The fan hatred discouraged him from attending the Trekkie conventions but he found a new lease of life with the internet and has become something of a celebrity among geeks, talking about his passion for gaming and running discussion boards to chat about various topics and has been geek-in-residence for various online magazines.

Wil Wheaton’s Twitter feed shows that he’s just an ordinary guy who likes to chat on the net, swear at his favourite ice hockey team and occasionally do a bit of acting. Wesley Crusher may have been one of the most irritating characters to ever appear on television but Wil Wheaton is really ok.

Brooke Burke understood the quick route to fame – if you don’t have talent, connections or luck, then you can always make use of a stupendous body to pose for Playboy, Maxim, Stuff and FHM and get the eyeballs of the world through that overworked second chakra.

Justine Ezarik describes herself as a ‘new media chick and Apple fan girl’ and is one of the web’s most famous lifecasters, a recent term evolved to define just why and how people become social media whores, broadcasting themselves over the internet.

But the blonde bimbo image that Justine Ezarik presents is, of course, just proof of her intelligence and net strategy. She knows the web, can video edit and runs her own successful blog, vlog and social media profiles – she’s a geek’s wet dream.

Ezarik came to fame with a viral video she made about the absurd 300 page Iphone bill she received. The video garnered over 8 million views and got picked up by the international press. Amusingly enough, Ezarik live-streamed a journalist who was interviewing her at the time.

So, pink phone and blonde hair aside,she’s s a very shrewd cookie and Justine Ezarik on Twitter has over 300,000 followers who listen in to her tweets about the latest geeky streaming events and snippets of her daily life.

He founded www.digg.com in December 2004, investing just a few thousand dollars. By October 2005 the site of popular internet links as voted for by users had attracted $2.8 million in funding and another $28 million in 2008.

As part of promoting Digg.com Kevin Rose started a weekly video podcast called Diggnation where he sits on a couch drinking beer with Alex Albrecht. They start the show with reading out some sponsors and then just bullshit for half an hour, reading out the latest crazy stories on Digg as they get progressively more drunk. Kind of inane and cool at the same time.

Kevin Rose’s Twitter feed is full of 2 word responses to friends and followers which is perhaps the kind of strategy you need to get 340,000 followers and rising.
